About

We built IndieAM for the kind of business we used to run.

Running an owner-operated business taught us the same lesson every month: knowing what you should post and actually posting it are two completely different problems. IndieAM was built to solve the second one.

What actually goes wrong

The ideas were never the problem.

Back to school. A new service. New products. A new offering. We always knew roughly what should go out and when.

It was writing.

You can run a business full of customers and still not be a copywriter. Those are different skills, and most owners only have the first one.

So it waited.

Behind sales, behind a customer on the phone, behind a staff member calling in sick. Marketing is the one job with no deadline, so it loses every week.

Then it stopped.

A burst of activity would come after a campaign, then it would slow down a few months later. The channels our customers were actually on would go quiet for months at a time.

None of that is a motivation problem. It's a skills-and-hours problem that feeds itself.

A note from our co-founder

For eleven years I ran Music Vault Academy with a business partner. We were good at the things that keep a school growing and running: direct sales, scheduling, enrollments, instructors, events, parents, the hundred small decisions a week. We ran real campaigns - back to school, new classes, new terms - and we were never once consistent with them.

It wasn't that we didn't know what to post. We did. It's that writing it well was a skill neither of us had, so it always slid behind whatever was on fire that day. And every gap made the next post harder to start.

Eleven years of trying to be consistent with marketing and social media presence is why IndieAM exists, and why it works the way it does: it does the planning and the writing, and it never takes a decision out of the owner's hands.

Paying someone wasn't the answer either

Somebody to keep a few channels going starts around $500 a month and climbs quickly from there; an agency starts in the thousands. For most owner-run businesses that's the entire marketing budget, spent on one part of marketing.

And the honest alternative was never an agency. It was carrying on ourselves, in bursts, badly.

So this is what IndieAM does

IndieAM does the part that kept not getting done.

It takes what you already know about your business, turns it into a campaign with a goal and a timeline, and writes every post (captions, articles, newsletters, video scripts, carousels slide by slide) in your voice.

It isn't a scheduler.

Schedulers ask you what to post. IndieAM answers that, then writes it.

And nothing it writes is final.

Approve a post as it stands, or treat it as your first draft: rewrite a line, cut a sentence, add the detail only you would know. Either way you started from something. A blank box is what stopped us.

How it fits a week that's already full

  • Once, at the start

About ten minutes. Paste your website, read the profile it drafted, fix what's wrong.

  • Once a campaign

One sitting. Pick an idea, pick your topics, look over the calendar, approve it.

  • Once a week

Next week's posts arrive written. Read them, change anything that's off, approve.

  • Once a day

One email says what's due. Copy it, post it, mark it done.

Posting stays with you. You know your phone, your photos, your customers in the comments. Everything upstream of that is what IndieAM is for.

What it won't do

It won't make anything up.

No prices, dates, offers, hours or addresses you didn't give it. If you didn't tell it, it can't say it.

It won't post without you.

Nothing moves at any stage until you approve it.

It won't sound like a robot, and it won't pretend to be you either.

Your voice is set up once and used in every draft. Then you get the last word on all of it.

It won't promise you numbers.

IndieAM keeps you present and consistent on the channels your customers use. That's the job it does well.

What's yours stays yours

You own your business, your information and every word we write for you. That's not a policy detail, it's how IndieAM is built.

Your account is your record.

What you tell IndieAM about your business, every campaign, every topic and every post written for it: that's your information, and it stays your information.

We write it for you, not for us.

Every caption, article, script and prompt is written on your behalf, the way someone working for you would write it. It's yours from the moment it appears. We claim no rights to any of it and we don't reuse it anywhere else.

Use it however you want.

Approve it as it is, rewrite it, post it somewhere we never suggested, or leave it for a month. IndieAM makes suggestions. What you do with them is entirely your call, and it's all plain text you can copy out and use anywhere you want.

IndieAM is built for owner-run businesses, by people who have run one.

If something doesn't fit the way your week works, tell us - it's the most useful message we get.
